pvp laser tag meets virtual reality. only: your opponent is walking upside-down?

Updated: Oct 8, 2024

"hey loser! how's 'not playing laser tag!?' because, playing laser tag is awesome!"

-barney stinson

laser tag: where you gotta pwn your friends before you get pwn'd!!! it is widely considered to be an absolutely legend- (wait for it...) dary awesome activity. it's just a plain fun thing to do for kids and adults alike.

have you tried laser tag? no!? well, perhaps you've played some paintball or airsoft? blasted friends with water guns? not those either?! well, the premise is pretty easy to grasp: pew-pew your competition (before they pew-pew you) with lasers and try to score the most points before the round ends!!

you've gotta take careful aim - as well as duck and dodge incoming blasts to be victorious. otherwise, you risk the dreaded smack talk on the drive home! the laser-tag game at noobs VR takes it to a whole new level!! if you are looking strictly for the classic laser tag experience here in the inland empire, southern california - like barney in this sweet compilation youtube video - we recommend that you check out our friends at lazerlegacy in yucaipa, ca! then come play here too :-)

now: prepare to level up - and picture this... your frienemy is standing right next to you, but also they seem to be directly above you 30 ft in the air. you see that the figure by your side is but a shadow of their formal self, while the one above looks like a roblox creator's poorly executed impression of a dr. robotnik. luckily your quick wits move with haste and a rocket launcher blast seals their fate. for the next 10 seconds anyway.

(i know, i know: "rocket launcher? but i thought that this was laser-tag?" you think to yourself as you read this last sentence with a puzzled look on your face. well, wipe that look off, soldier! apparently, there are now also rocket launchers - and you best be the first to find it and start pwning before you get pwned!!)

in the next moment, your friend moves right - you go left. they are up against the wall as you face the opposite side - but there they are again in front of you!! you duck, but are too late... they have blasted a photon blaster right in your onlooking dumbstruck face - and you fade, defeated, as your surroundings turn a dull grey.

what is this sorcery? well, thanks to the voodoo that we do so you don't have to in a world that doesn't exist - your laser tag arena is 2-6 times the size of the actual physical space.

well, it's actually not voodoo - it's more of a spatial science... come to think of it, that could be synonymous in some folks' lines of thought... but i digress.

think of it as a multiple dimensions. each part of the map layout that you can explore shares the same gameplay area as the next - so when your friend is but a shadow, they exist only in the physical world, but not in the virtual dimension that you inhabit. you can travel upon elevators (or 'lifts' as you may know it, if you came from across the pond) or through portals to their dimension - or simply shoot beyond the divide to blast them from afar! choose wisely, for there is a time and a place for both actions! it may be confusing for the first few minutes, and you may likely get caught unaware before getting a hang of the layout - but very soon, you'll be blasting with the best of them!

what is this multi-dimensional free-roam VR laser tag game? "shmooter!"

"we've play tested well over a dozen pvp, free roam VR laser tag games - and none have come close to the level of immersive fun that you find in 'shmooter'"

-devin, one of the noobs

in this high-energy, multiplayer free-roam VR shooter game, you just may find yourself:
  • ducking behind fake walls

  • crouched & waddling like a penguin behind 'ledges'

  • high-tailing it from one side of the room to another until you are a sweaty mess

  • reaching your arms out, probably too far, as you aim for the perfect headshot... then your arm grows as tired as it did at that stein holding competition you competed in at oktoberfest

  • forgetting that the shadow of your friend is actually still a real person because you are so immersed and bump into their arm as you pass

  • squealing a joyful, 'yes!!!!' as your electric rail gun one-shots your buddy. which is promptly followed by their pathetic cry of 'dude - i just spawned in!!!!'

  • asking for a water break. yes, you'll do well to take one.

  • asking noobs how many people can play this game at a time, because you want to shoot your little brother/your neighbor, 'bob'/your mother in law/your boss/your ex-girlfriend and/or boyfriend/your buddy dave, but forgot to invite them this time...

  • questioning 'why on earth didn't i do this sooner!!??'

oh, yes. this is a preview. watch it. it is beautiful. it's showcases one of many of the levels on shmooter. this one is entitled 'cubes' - for neither we, nor our game developers, can claim ownership or affiliation with the game that it probably reminds you of. but that as you watch it, just look out for when they fire from one floating 'island' to another. yup, that person they just blasted is on the other side of the room. is it starting to make more sense? if not, that's ok. some times - we can't quite explain it as good as slapping a headset on you and letting you experience it for yourself.

cover your eyes... you've gotta see this.™

need to compare and contrast all your shooter options before you commit?

don't just take our word for it though! check out some of our guest's reviews on 'shmooter!'

we removed the capital letters because they scared us... otherwise, the excerpts that we share on our blog are from unsolicited reviews that we have received from real guests - typically from google, yelp, tripadvisor, or facebook. click on the header title to see the original review :-)

"ok so turns out all these 5 star reviews are... completely on point. noobs is a f**king blast! brought my 3 sons for the eldest's 12th birthday, and we all absolutely loved it. even managed to convince 72 year old grandpa, who had only come to spectate, to join in... and he loved it too! (he served in 'Nam, and he wasn't f**king around :-O) we got 5 rounds of shmooter in, so much fun. we did all against each other, i got hang of the controls quickest, found a camping spot and mercilessly sniped my family from a neighboring tower. me and grandpa teamed up for round 2 and crushed the kids. thought it was gonna be a clean sweep... but the kids soon figured out what was going on and annihilated us last 3 rounds :-( maps are brilliant, especially the minecraft one. big enough to run and hide, but not so expansive that you can get away with camping for long. controls are simple and intuitive enough to put my 8 year old son and 72 year old father in law on equal footing. there's a clever 'ghost' system that shows when someone is physically but not virtually in the same place as you, so collisions are avoided.

...

the only advice I'd offer that i havent seen yet is bring a change of shirt... we were all soaked from sweat sprinting around!! (ps make sure you sign up for marketing emails - they are very infrequent but get you a big fat discount!)"

"had a blast with my son playing against each other. devin was really nice and helpful in showing us the ropes. we definitely plan to come back soon to play other games here. best version of laser tag I've ever played. highly recommend!!"

so much fun!!!! the experience is really unique. the play space is so big and it's calibrated so you can really move around and be immersed in the game. we did the alien game and some laser tag. we enjoyed both but really loved the laser tag. would totally recommend this to everyone!
